David was a young shepherd boy. He took care of his father’s sheep every day. The green hills were his playground, and he loved to watch the fluffy clouds float by like soft cotton candy.
One day, David’s father asked him to take food to his brothers who were soldiers. The soldiers were standing on a big hill, ready to fight the giant Goliath. Goliath was very tall and strong. He wore heavy armor that shined like the sun, and he had a big spear that looked like a tree!
The soldiers were very scared of Goliath. He shouted loudly, “Who will fight me?” But no one was brave enough to face the giant. David felt surprised. He asked, “Why is everyone so afraid? Can’t God help us?”
David said to King Saul, “Don’t be afraid. The Lord who saved me from lions and bears will help me defeat Goliath.” King Saul gave David his big armor, but it was too heavy and made David feel like a little bird trying to wear a big coat.
David took only his sling and five smooth stones from the river. He walked toward Goliath with a brave heart. The giant laughed loudly, “Am I a dog that you come to fight me with sticks?” But David smiled and said, “You come with sword and spear, but I come in the name of the Lord!”
David swung his sling and let the stone fly. It moved fast like a shooting star. The stone hit Goliath’s forehead, and the giant fell down with a big thud on the ground. Everyone was quiet for a moment, then they cheered loudly!
David showed that God is stronger than any giant or problem. The soldiers were happy and not scared anymore. David trusted God, and God helped him win the battle.
David’s story teaches us to be brave and trust God even when things seem hard. God’s power is bigger than anything scary or big in our lives!

Bible passage
1 Samuel 17 (World English Bible)
1 Now the Philistines gathered their armies together to battle, and they were gathered at Socoh, which belongs to Judah, and camped between Socoh and Azekah, in Ephes-dammim.
2 Saul and the men of Israel were gathered, and camped in the Valley of Elah, and drew up for battle against the Philistines.
3 The Philistine camp was on one hill, and Israel’s camp was on another hill, with a valley between them.
4 A champion named Goliath, from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span.
5 He had a bronze helmet on his head, and wore a coat of scale armor; the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of bronze.
6 He had bronze greaves on his legs and a bronze javelin slung between his shoulders.
7 The shaft of his spear was like a weaver’s beam, and his spear’s head weighed six hundred shekels of iron. His shield bearer went before him.
8 He stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, *“Why do you come out to draw up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and you servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.
9 If he is able to fight
