One evening, Jesus and His friends, the twelve disciples, gathered in a quiet room. The sun was setting, and soft light filled the room like a warm hug. Jesus wanted to share a very special meal with His friends before something big was going to happen.
Jesus took some bread and broke it into pieces. He gave it to His friends and said, “This bread is like my body. I will give it for you.” Everyone looked at Him with wide eyes. They felt love and a little sadness too because they knew Jesus was telling them something important.
Then Jesus took a cup of wine. He said, “This cup is like my blood. It is poured out to forgive many people.” The disciples listened carefully. Jesus wanted them to remember His love forever. It was like He was giving them a secret gift that would always be with them.
Jesus also washed the disciples’ feet. This was a job usually done by helpers, but Jesus wanted to show He loved them by doing this simple work. He said, “I am your teacher and servant. You should love and help each other too.” The friends felt surprised and happy because Jesus showed them how to be kind.
Jesus talked about one of His friends who would do something sad. He said, “One of you will say goodbye to me soon.” The disciples wondered, “Who will do this? Will it be me?” They felt confused and worried, but Jesus wanted them to trust Him no matter what.
Before the meal ended, Jesus gave His friends a new way to remember Him. He said, “Whenever you eat bread and drink this cup, remember me and my love.” It was like a promise that Jesus would always be with them, even when they couldn’t see Him.
That night, Jesus showed His great love by giving His friends a special gift—a way to remember Him and to love one another. The Last Supper was full of kindness, hope, and a little sadness, like a soft song that stays in your heart.

Luke 22:7-20 (ICB)
7 Then the day of the Festival of the Unleavened Bread came. This was the day when the Passover lamb had to be killed.
8 Jesus sent Peter and John and said, “Go and prepare the Passover meal for us to eat.”
9 They asked, “Where do you want us to prepare it?”
10 Jesus said to them, “When you go into the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him.
11 Tell the owner of the house he enters, ‘The Teacher asks, “Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?”’
12 He will show you a large room upstairs. Prepare the meal there.”
13 They left and found everything just as Jesus had told them. So they prepared the Passover meal.
14 When the time came, Jesus sat down with the twelve apostles.
15 He said, “I have wanted very much to eat this Passover meal with you before I suffer.
16 I tell you, I will not eat it again until it is made new in the Kingdom of God.”
17 Then Jesus took a cup of wine and thanked God for it.
18 He said, *“
