One quiet morning in a little town called Nazareth, a young girl named Mary was busy with her day. The sun was shining softly, and the birds sang sweet songs in the trees. Mary felt peaceful and happy, but she didn’t know that something very special was about to happen.
Suddenly, a bright light filled the room! It was an angel, a messenger from God. Mary was surprised and a little scared. The angel smiled gently and said, “Don’t be afraid, Mary. God is very pleased with you.”
Mary’s heart beat fast. She wondered, Why is God pleased with me? The angel told her, “You will have a baby boy. You will name him Jesus. He will be very special. He will be the Son of God.”
Mary was amazed and asked, “How can this be? I am not married yet.” The angel explained, “The Holy Spirit will come to you. God will do a miracle in your life.”
Mary thought about the angel’s words. She trusted God even though she didn’t understand everything. She said, “I am God’s servant. Let it happen just as you said.”
The angel smiled again and said, “God’s power will protect you. Your baby will bring joy and hope to the whole world.”
Mary felt a warm light inside her heart. She knew God loved her very much and had a wonderful plan. She was happy to be part of God’s big story.
After the angel left, Mary quietly prayed. She thanked God for choosing her to be the mother of Jesus. She felt brave and joyful, ready to tell Joseph, her fiancé, the amazing news.
This moment is the very first Advent, the time when we remember how Jesus came to our world. The angel’s visit shows us that God’s plans are full of love and hope for everyone.

Bible passage
Luke 1:26-38 (World English Bible)
26 In the sixth month, God sent the angel Gabriel to a city of Galilee named Nazareth,
27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary.
28 The angel came to her and said, “Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!”
29 She was very troubled at what was said and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.
30 The angel said to her, “Don’t be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
31 Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a son, and you shall name him Jesus.
32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.
33 He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and his kingdom will have no end.”
34 Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I have not known a man?”
35 The angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore, the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
36 Behold, Elizabeth, your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is the sixth month for her who was called barren.
37 For nothing will be impossible with God.”
