Wise Men Follow the Star

Three Wise Men following the bright star on their journey to Bethlehem.

Long ago, in a land far away, there were some very wise men. These men loved to look at the stars in the sky. One night, they saw a very bright star shining like a sparkling diamond. “Look!” one wise man said, “This star is special! It must mean something wonderful is happening!”

The wise men decided to follow the bright star. They packed gifts like gold, frankincense, and myrrh. These were very precious gifts, like treasures from a treasure chest. Their camels walked slowly through the dark night, and the star seemed to dance above them, lighting their way.

As they traveled, the wise men wondered, “Where is this star leading us?” They felt excited but also a little tired. The night sky was quiet, and the stars twinkled like tiny lanterns. They knew they were following God’s special sign to find someone very important.

Finally, the star stopped shining over a small house in a town called Bethlehem. The wise men felt their hearts beat fast with joy. They went inside and saw a baby lying in a manger. The baby’s mother smiled warmly. “This must be the King the star told us about!” one wise man whispered.

They bowed down and gave the baby their gifts. Gold for a king, frankincense to show he was holy, and myrrh for his future. The baby’s eyes were full of love, and the room felt peaceful like a soft hug. The wise men were so happy to have found Jesus, the special child God sent to the world.

After they left, an angel warned them, “Do not go back to the king who wants to hurt the baby.” So, the wise men took a different path home, feeling safe and thankful. They knew God was watching over Jesus and over them too.

The story of the wise men shows us that God’s light can guide us, just like the star guided them. When we trust God, He helps us find the right way, even in the dark. And just like the wise men, we can bring our best gifts—our love and kindness—to Jesus.

Bible passage

Matthew 2:1-12

Matthew 2:1-12 (ICB)

After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time when Herod was king, some wise men came from the east to Jerusalem.

They asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose, and we have come to worship him.”

When King Herod heard this, he was worried, and all Jerusalem was worried with him.

Herod called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law. He asked, “Where is the Messiah supposed to be born?”

They said, “In Bethlehem in Judea, because this was written by the prophet:
‘Bethlehem in the land of Judah, you are not the least among the leaders of Judah,
because a leader will come from you who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.’”

Then Herod secretly called the wise men and asked them the exact time the star had appeared.

He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and search carefully for the child. When you find him, tell me so I can go and worship him too.”
