Long ago, in a world just made by God, there lived two brothers named Cain and Abel. They were the first children of Adam and Eve. Cain was a farmer who grew plants, and Abel was a shepherd who took care of sheep. Both brothers wanted to give a gift to God to show how much they loved Him.
One bright morning, Cain picked some of the best fruits and vegetables from his fields. He worked hard to make a nice gift for God. Abel, on the other hand, chose the very best lamb from his sheep. He wanted to give God something special too. Their hearts were full of hope as they prepared their gifts.
When Cain and Abel brought their gifts to God, something very important happened. God looked at Abel’s gift and was happy with it. But God did not accept Cain’s gift the same way. Cain felt a heavy sadness in his heart, like a dark cloud covering the sun. He wondered, “Why didn’t God like my gift?”
God saw Cain’s sadness and spoke gently to him. “Why are you sad, Cain? If you do what is right, won’t you be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is waiting to catch you, like a hungry lion.” God wanted Cain to choose to do what was good and right.
But Cain’s heart was filled with anger. Instead of listening to God, he let his anger grow like a wild fire. One day, Cain did something very bad. He hurt his brother Abel because he was jealous and angry. This made God very sad too.
God asked Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?” Cain answered, “I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” But God knew the truth. Cain had made a very wrong choice, and there were big consequences.
Even though Cain did wrong, God still cared for him. God put a special mark on Cain to protect him. This mark was like a gentle promise that Cain would be safe, even when he was in trouble. God’s love is big and strong, even when we make mistakes.
This story reminds us that God wants us to make good choices and listen to Him. When we do what is right, our hearts feel happy and close to God. And when we feel angry or sad, God is always ready to help us choose love and kindness instead.

1 Now Adam knew Eve his wife, and she conceived and bore Cain, and said, “I have gotten a man from the LORD.”
2 Again, she bore his brother Abel. Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
3 In the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the ground to the LORD.
4 Abel also brought of the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the LORD respected Abel and his offering,
