All Saints’ Day – Remembering God’s People

On November 1st, many Christians around the world celebrate All Saints’ Day. On this day, we remember all those who loved Jesus, trusted Him, and believed in Him with all their hearts — those who lived before us and were great examples of faith, and also us today.

Let’s take a look into God’s Word. In the Bible, interestingly, everyone who believes in Jesus and trusts Him is called a “saint.” Why is that?

Because no one can become holy through what they do — only through Jesus, because He is holy. He forgives our mistakes, and when we believe in Him, we become holy through Him. Only through Jesus can we have eternal life, not through what we do. He forgives our guilt, our sins, our dirt, and makes us holy, just as He is holy. Only Jesus can do that, if we believe in Him. When we do good, it makes God happy, because He loves us so much.

The apostle Paul writes to the church in Corinth:

“To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be His holy people, together with all those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ…” (1 Corinthians 1:2)

And Jesus Himself showed His friends what this life with God looks like. His words are known as the Beatitudes.

The Story: Jesus on the Mountain

Many people followed Jesus. They had heard about His miracles and wanted to hear His words. One day, He went up on a mountain. When He sat down, His disciples and a great crowd gathered around Him.

Everything became very quiet. Only the wind moved through the grass. Then Jesus began to speak:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

The people were surprised. Many had thought that only the rich or powerful were blessed. But Jesus said: those who are humble and trust God are truly rich.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Some in the crowd quietly wept. Yet there was hope in Jesus’ words — God sees everyone who is sad.

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”

A child whispered, “Not the loud and strong, but the gentle?” — Yes, that’s exactly what Jesus meant.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

The people nodded. They knew what it was like when injustice happened. Jesus promised: God will one day make everything right.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.”

A father took his child on his lap. He understood: whoever forgives others will themselves receive forgiveness.

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.”

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.”

The people felt: this is not easy — but this is the heart of God.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Then Jesus looked at His disciples and said:

“Rejoice when people mock or mistreat you because you belong to Me, for great is your reward in heaven.”

Connection to All Saints’ Day

These words of Jesus show us how people live who belong to God. In the Bible, they are called saints — not because they are perfect, but because Jesus makes them holy.

On All Saints’ Day, we remember:

  • Many people before us lived like this — some bravely, some quietly, but always trusting in God.
  • They are examples of faith for us.
  • And we too may belong to them — because we love Jesus.

Saints are not far away or unreachable. Everyone who trusts Jesus belongs to this great family of God.
